Late enrolments are accepted if there is a vacancy, but the full fee applies. For conditions of enrolment (course transfer and withdrawal, IML refund policy and other relevant information), please click here

Year course - one semester enrolment

Students are welcome to enrol in one semester of a Year course. If you are enrolling for Semester 2, you must have covered the Semester 1 content as listed in the Course Outline. For more details, please contact the IML Office.

Discounts

Enrol in 2 or more courses per person at once or bring a friend to receive a 10% discount. Both friends receive a discount.
UQ staff discount - 5%. At time of enrolment, either show Staff ID at the IML counter or send an email from your UQ email address.

Multiple discounts permitted.

The 'Bring a friend', 'Enrol into 2 courses' and UQ Staff discounts are not available for online enrolments. To claim, enrol personally at IML or email the Enrolment Form and mention the discount you would like to claim. For the 'Bring a friend' discount, we need to receive both enrolment forms at the same time.

Different Types of Courses

IML offers the following 3 types of language learning courses.

Level Courses Various formats Systematic and incremental acquisition, and culturally appropriate use, of the target language through selected topics, functions and language structures Optional

LEVEL COURSES

are offered in the following formats:

  • A courses - 12 weekly sessions in Semester 1.
  • B courses - 11 weekly sessions in Semester 2, followed by an examination (optional). They are a continuation of A courses, suitable for those with some previous exposure to the language. The combination of A and B courses is the equivalent of a Year course.
  • Year courses (A + B) - 23 weekly sessions over 2 semesters: 12 sessions in Semester 1, 11 sessions in Semester 2; followed by an examination (optional)
  • Accelerated courses (A + B) - 23 sessions, twice a week, in a single semester; followed by an examination (optional)
  • Semester 2 Only courses (A + B) – 18 longer weekly sessions held in Semester 2 only; followed by an examination (optional)
  • Intensive Courses (A + B)(Summer only) – 14 longer sessions, twice a week, held in the Summer Semester only; followed by an examination (optional)

IML also offers the following purpose-specific courses:

CONVERSATION COURSES

The focus of these semester-based courses is on maintaining and extending conversational fluency. These are offered for a limited number of languages at Level 5 or higher. Semester 1 and Semester 2 only.

HIGH SCHOOL ENRICHMENT COURSES

These are the only non-adult IML classes. 5 days in a single week in January or mid-year. For students undertaking the Senior phase of Secondary schooling (QCE and IB, Year 11 and 12).
