Social Sciences and Humanities Library lift upgrade & building work

A number of major renovations projects are underway in our libraries. We apologise for the noise and inconvenience, and will provide you with weekly updates and likely completion dates when we know these. Please contact us if you need more information and assistance.

Replacing the Social Sciences and Humanities Library lift

We are replacing the public lift in the Social Sciences and Humanities Library (Building 12) with a new and much faster lift. The existing lift is now closed. The new lift will be available in January 2016.

Until the new lift is ready:

  • There will be stair access only to Levels 2–4 of the building.
  • If you need help with getting material from the collection please ask at the Service Desk on Level 1. Our staff can either:
    • Arrange for the items to be retrieved for you and help you find an alternative reading space on Level 1, or
    • Escort you to and from the upper floors in a staff lift.
  • The work area may be very noisy, particularly during the day. Ear plugs are available from the desk on Level 1. We apologise for the inconvenience. You may be able to find a quiet study space in one of our other Library locations.

Roof works – Social Sciences and Humanities Library

  • Construction work on a new roof will begin on Monday 2 November.
  • Collections previously housed on Level 4 have been relocated in preparation for this project as announced on the Library blog, but this level remains available for students to use as a study space. The Law collection has been moved to this floor while the Law Library is closed for refurbishment in 2016.

Please contact us if you need more information or support during this time.
