LANGUAGE TASTER
Content Whet your appetite for the French language with this short taster course. If you’ve always been curious about the “language of love” and the people who speak it, this is a great place to start. In three 1.5 hour classes, you’ll be introduced to the absolute basics of the French language. For those who’d like to continue learning French at the end of the course, we suggest enrolling in our Short Course for Beginners.

Content Bonjour Brisbane! Never learnt French before, but keen to start? This absolute beginner course will introduce you to the French language and equip you with the basics you need to communicate. In our interactive classes, you’ll develop basic skills for everyday use in conversation, comprehension, reading and writing, and begin to gain insight into French culture and society. The lessons will familiarise you with numbers, spelling and pronunciation, as well as basic vocabulary and grammar. Once you’ve completed the course, you can continue to learn French in one of our Level 2 French classes.

Lively communication-focussed lessons will introduce you to key language structures that enable you to discuss past and future events. LEVEL 3
Content Know the fundamentals of the French language, but keen to build on them? In this course you’ll learn to speak and write French with increasing fluency and confidence, exploring topics like accommodation, health and wellbeing, and history. You’ll extend your vocabulary and tackle more complex language structures, such as the imperfect and imperative tenses and the conditional mood. At the end of the course, you’ll be able to communicate with confidence at an intermediate level and read and compose texts in French for daily communications.

Content If you can handle most situations in French with confidence, albeit not with full fluency, this level 5 course can help you maintain and further your language skills. Aimed at students who have completed IML level 4, or who have attained a standard equivalent to high school matriculation in the language, this course will consolidate and build on learners’ knowledge through enjoyable and interesting interaction. The intention is that lessons will be conducted almost exclusively in French, using authentic material wherever possible, and will focus on a balance of all macro skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. At the end of the course you can choose to further master the French language in our level 6 course, or join our level 5+ conversation course.

LEVEL 5+ CONVERSATION
Content Parle-moi, Brisbane... This French ‘cercle’ offers you the opportunity to put into practice the language skills that you gained from your French language courses. These conversation classes are open to all students who feel they are ready to use spoken French as well as to those who wish to maintain their fluency in conversational French. The tutor will guide you through a variety of discussion topics based on the interests of the group and topics that arise during the semester.

The expectation is that classes will be conducted exclusively in French, using authentic material wherever possible. HIGH SCHOOL - ENRICHMENT
Content French Enrichment Course (Years 11 and 12 in 2017). This French course is suitable for students in the Senior phase of learning who wish to enrich their knowledge of the language and culture. The focus is on enhancing fluency and accuracy of expression. The content is based on themes and topics specified in the Qld Curriculum & Assessment Authority (QCAA) Senior Syllabus and in the International Baccalaureate program (IB).
